The endless sprawl of a future city, 8-bit pixel art style. Shown at 300%.
This test piece had two goals:
- To work with a limited palette while adding depth to a clustered, dense scene.
- And to create a visual representation, in pixels, of a story/game world that has been bouncing around in my head for a long time.
Finding the middle ground between crude and blocky 8-bit style pixel art and a resolution that provides the viewer with just enough detail, is balancing act I’m still trying to perfect. A large attractor for myself to 8-bit art is the requirement to use the imagination to fill in the details. On the flip side to that statement, 16-bit Amiga/Genesis style art also holds a special nostalgic value for me.
